Johnny: read Clayton Jones article on Black Only printing at http://www.cjcom.net/articles/digiprn4.htm (part 4). It's the best explanation of Gamma 1.8 and 2.2 and the various interactions that I've ever read. Even though you're printing with hextones in your 1280 and his articles are about BO, the information you're looking for is there.
