There IS a 4th approach, that you may not want to hear about, but
some people here have actually done: buy a cheap (several hundred
dollars, cheaper than many of the RIPs) Macintosh and use it as a
dedicated print server, running one of the free drivers that
apparently give excellent results (like QuadTone RIP or OPM).
