It's used for water displacement, as the name ("WD") indicates. It's also a
penetrating oil for loosening tight and possibly corroded nuts and bolts.
It can be used for a lubricant for non-critical applications, such as door
hinges. But due to its penetrating qualities, it probably shouldn't be used
in critical applications. For example, people who have used it to lubricate
guns have found that it penetrates into the primers of loaded cartridges
and renders them inert.
