Digital BW, The Print

john Lighjet fires RGB lasers at the paper so the file needs to be RGB. To
prep the file you'll need a calibrated monitor, a profiled printer to proof
with. Any decent lab has a profile for their Lightjet so you save as RGB
(usually 300dpi) assign the labs profile and print to your colour printer
using the profile of the printer. That will give you a good idea of the tone
of the print you'll get. Many labs do a cheaper rate if you prep the file
yourself. That normally means having a canvass size the size of the paper
with the image centred in the canvass as you want it. File at 300dpi RGB
with the image converted to the labs profile.
One of the quirks of BW is that it isn't ICC standardised - apart from Cones
new method - so you really need everything profiled so you know what you
will get back - otherwise it gets expensive.
