I have been playing with this and encourage people to try it. I will

If you are put off by the mention of a densitometer or the EyeOne,
don't be. Everything is there to get good results with only a moderate
flatbed scanner to compare densities, and I suspect you could even do
it by eye. Final linearization is a breeze with an EyeOne, but it's so
smooth before finalizing you can also do that visually.
