Daniel, Looks about right. I came up with approx. the same partition numbers using Apple's DigitalColor Meter utility on your scan. Only other suggestion I have would be to try varying the GRAY_HIGHLIGHT and GRAY_SHADOW values. If you start with minimal values of 0.01 for each and can get a smooth convex curve then linearization should work (However, I think you need absolute density data for the linearization.). If not, it may be necessary to adjust the highlight and shadow values higher to get closer to an optimal curve before doing the linearization.
