Jim,

If you are looking for Mac software to keep track of you images, check 
out  iview ( http://www.iview-multimedia.com ). The pro version will 
index and allow you to annotate you image files.

I have ACDSee and "Image Viewer" on my Mac G4.  Neither is totally 
satisfactory and I use both depending on what I need to do.

I you are running a windows platform look at a freeware package called 
Ifrans View.  You can get it from Tucows.
