I presume you mean the original Piezos ?
Strange that there is so much variation :
I purchased this Epson 3000 several months ago,
and it was loaded ( purged for shipment ) with
the original Cone PiezoBW inks. I reinstalled the
inks, perfect nozzle tests. I printed ~ 10 16x20
and various smaller size prints over the next
six weeks or so with never a cleaning cycle needed
and excellent quality prints.....
I tried the MIS FS N inks with very bad results,
installed the PT and after a few weeks, all has 
settled down to good printing again.

I wonder what is the basis for such inconsistency..

I measured the paper feed on this E3000 last night-
 twenty inch prints = 20" with perhaps 1/16" error.
