Digital BW, The Print

Hello  I'm new to the group and need a lot of help with my B&W 
printing  I have an Epson 2200 and Photoshop 7 running on a Dell PC
I normally use channel mixer to adjust and convert to Greyscale to 
make my prints.  I understand most people print using the color 
button in the print set up.  Could someone be kind enough to lead me 
thru the whole process from a RGB color image to the B&W print output.
Also what are the thoughts on using Epson inks or converting to Cone 
etc. inks for B&W prints?
