I tried 720, and  1440 X 700HQ - no go - same problem. However, in printing
I noticed that it appeared that gray tones wer being layed down and then
covered with black... I checked the curve and it is the fs not the
fs-calibrate version. I did the ink limiting calibration.

  It's a known problem with Quadtone Rip that printing with 1440 x 720 gives
this
  result. If   you use 1440 x 720 HQ you will be ok. All other resolutions
should be ok
  as well.
  It's a simple fix.
