What parts of Photoshop are multi-threaded? You mentioned filters, are you
talking about filters that are part of the baseline installation of
Photoshop, or third party plug-in filters?

  There are several parts of Photoshop that are multithreaded.
  Particularly the filters. Another reason to want more than one CPU is
  that even if a certain application is single threaded, the other
  processes can run on different CPUs. This is not just a case where you
  would want to run two things at once. Even if you are not running
  anything, the system already has 20 or so processes running in the
  background. Think of it as one CPU for what you are doing and another
  for the rest of the system.

  You are correct. I don't know if that changed in XP though.
