PiezographyBW was first released in April, 2000 and further refined in 2002 with the introduction of the PiezoTone inks. Cone Editions Press, Ltd. is seeking to create an historical archive of this process. Although the first monochromatic inks and software systems were released by Cone Editions Press in the early and mid-1990's, PiezographyBW deserves a unique archive of its own due to the revolution it caused as an affordable, digital, darkroom replacement. By establishing this contest, Cone Editions Press is encouraging photographers to put their best works forward for inclusion in the archive as well as being considered for prizes. All submitted works will become the property of the PiezographyBW archives at Cone Editions Press. Copyrights to the works will remain with the photographers who submitted them. The first prize award for the winning photographer is to work in residence at the Cone Editions Press Studio to further their photographic vision with the assistance of the staff and the equipment of the studio. A travel allowance as well as boarding is included. Other valuable prizes are offered as well. The Cone Editions Press Archive was established in 1980 to archive examples of experimental printmaking process as well as working, trial and state proofs and Right to Print proofs of the more than 300 original editions published by Cone Editions Press. Cone Editions Press was founded in 1980 as an experimental, collaborative printmaking workshop producing prints with artists in silkscreen, intaglio, monoprint, photogravure and relief print. Cone Editions Press began producing digital and computer assisted printmaking with artists in 1985, and began producing monochromatic inkjet in 1993.
