Andre, Thanks for the feedback. With the help of Tom O'Connell and other group members we took a hard look at moving about a year ago due to the steep rise in advertising that started hitting us. I even created a trial list on Topica which I also discovered through John's lists. From what we gathered at the time the group members tracked posts both on line and by e-mail, and the number of people who did one or the other was pretty evenly divided. Most of the free forum sites out there are either one or the other but not both. On top of that Yahoo Groups offers the Files, Links, and other sections off the homepage. I did find one service in the UK that had identical features but a trial forum there did not work since they apparently did not have any servers outside the UK and it took messages 12 to 24 hours to propagate to and from the site. So Yahoo's worldwide network of servers is important to us since the group has members all over the place. I even took a look at what it would take to set everything up on a private site and got annual costs of $5,000 to $10,000 plus management time. So here we still are. I took a look at Beststuff.com but it appears to be an on-line only site with no e-mail. If you should see something that has all the Yahoo features let me know. As to the current spammers, someone has obviously figured out a way to automatically join a whole bunch of Yahoo groups simultaneously, drop in a post and then leave. I am surprised Yahoo has not picked up on this and taken some action although I suspect it is hard to block given their open structure. Hopefully at this point we are all wise enough not to click on anonymous links and I will keep deleting the stuff as I see it. Still toying with moderating all new members. I may give it a try for awhile just to see how much work it turns out to be.
