* I would vote to continue with your current procedure for
* handling these types of e-mails--deletion, banning, etc.--and
* live with the few that we're getting. I really don't think
* you and/or Antonis should be wasting what I'm sure is
* valuable time reviewing each and every post to the list. Just
* my opinion, of course.

Alan,

Just to clarify things, we were only considering placing new members on
moderated status when they first join the group. This would have no effect
on current members. Only the first post of new members would be reviewed and
if it was appropriate for the list they would be taken off of moderated
status and their future posting would not be reviewed. This procedure would
cut off the spammers but at the cost of new members not being able to
immediately post to the group in the middle of the night to get help with a
printing problem when they have a deadline the next morning.

No way would I place the entire group on moderated status! That would kill
it off quicker than any amount of spam.

* Based on my experience with this forum, it seems that this
* recent spamming has been exactly that; pretty much
* recent...and really has not been that bad. For me,
* personally, when I see a message with no content other than
* something like "New picture here..." with a link I don't
* click on it. Also, after not too much time on this list one
* gets to the point of recognizing most of the "usual
* suspects." Again, if I don't recognize the posters name, I
* don't click. Simple and effective!

Good advice along with never replying to any e-mail from an unknown source
no matter how logical their request may sound.

Martin
