the black cartridge is interchangeable with a photo grey cartridge which has black, medium grey and light grey ink. the inks are dye- based. from what i have read, the longevity is partly due to the fact that their paper has a non porous, but rather a swellable top- surface, making the print much less prone to evaporative fading. I assume that UV light-fastness will not be as good as pigment.
