The big thing that needs to be addressed is the levels throughout the 
image making sure there are no big gaps in the histogram.  These come 
about by too much manipulation in curves/levels.

I had this problem and went back to scanning the original image back 
in again using Vuescan and getting the image to what it should look 
like before playing with it in PS7.  This made all the difference.  
If you have BB/ADSL send me a link to a file I can download and I 
will see if I can reproduce the errors that you are talking about 
using my 1290/UT setup.

This moves the raw source file on disk only. The archive index is not changed automatically, so you still need to run a manual refresh afterward.
