RE: Success (was: Epson install problem after ImagePrint)

2003-10-24 by Ken Carney

For those who may have fallen in this situation, the key to the castle is:
(1) try to uninstall IP with its own installer. It probably won't
completely uninstall. (2) Manually delete the IP folders. You probably
won't be able to do this until you uncheck a print file that IP has put in
your startup menu. (3) Go to printer settings and find new ports that have
appeared, in my case "CB Monitor" that pointed to an IP file still on the
HD, and delete them. (4) Manually delete the Epson (1270 in my case)
printer. (5) Edit the XP registry (you must know how, else perhaps a broken
PC) to remove all vestiges of the original IP and Epson installation. (6)
Reboot the PC with the printer on. X out of XP's attempt to reinstall the
XP drivers. (7) Manually install the printer in setting>printers, check
"have disk" and point to the directory where your Epson XP driver files are
and find an .inf file to select. (8) Proceed with the installation - a very
long time, 15 minutes on a 1.7gz P4 with no disk activity...go have a drink.
You must manually install the printer, or the Epson XP installation program
will attempt to install it and hang (9) Install the Epson XP status
monitor. (10) Assuming you have the IP demo verson (no $ invested),
strongly consider spending $50 for Photokit (www.pixelgenius.com) which will
do a good job of printing neutral and cold-tone b&w images on Epson paper,
and especially the Photokit sharpener. I hope this helps some poor soul
who, like myself, is not a computer expert and has to bang on it until
something works.

Bob, I have edited the registry (found dozens of keys left by IP), but still
no joy. I still cannot reinstall the 1270. Before the IP demo the Epson
driver worked OK, after I can't reinstall = I would say IP is removed from
the equation for purchase consideration.

Ken,

Something else I read was that installation of the IP driver would uncheck
the port of the Epson 1270 driver (USB or LPT1?) and put the printer on
'Pause'. So you would have to recheck the port of the 1270, untick Pause,
and recheck printer spooling and possibly bidirectional support to get the
1270 running again if it had already been installed, but if it has stopped a
fresh installation of your 1270 from working??? I had no problem in getting
my 2100 working again after uninstalling IP, or simply going back to using
the Epson driver while IP is still installed, providing I went into
Settings/Printers/Properties and rechecked all the normal Epson printer
settings. I might try installing my 2100 twice under two different names (eg
Epson 2100 and IP 2100) and let IP interfere with one and see if I can still
use the other normally.

I do like the look of the new 4000 though. It would save me having to find a
way of refilling the 2100 cartridges from some 7600 cartridges, allow
instant swapping of photo black and matte black, and if the profiles are
good enough, we might not need IP!! Hang on to your money 'till January.

Bob Frost.
