The lines hold a lot of ink, so you have to pull the carts with the printer off, then turn it on, and it'll purge the lines. then you put the cleaning carts in and eventually do the same thing again to switch to whatever your final inks are. Even if the inks are compatible it's worth doing because the small amount of color ink still hanging in there (coating the inside of the lines or whatever) will effect the hue of your quad inks for quite a few prints. It's not worth trying to run the ink out because someone estimated the lines hold about 80 8x10's worth of ink, might as well purge. The printer keeps track of purges, because the sponges where the ink gets dumped from purging and clean cycles will fill up. At that point all lights will flash, you can't print, and it has to go in the shop for reset, no option. It happened to me once when I was trying to clear the Lyson clog from hell. The 3000 is not the printer to play with different inks, obviously. Best make your ink decisions on something smaller. Tyler
