Martin, 
Thank you for remembering... I was definitely in a frenzy... but did make
the deadline. My SS35ES wasn't recognizing my capture software... the Sprint
scan software caused the mac to freeze, and the insight wasn't working.  I
disabled the sprintscan, and re-installed Insight, but I'm sure there was
something else - senior moment and can't remember. I did download vuescan,
but don't understand how to capture with that... Ugh... the learning curve
is sometimes too steep, and/or my attention span too short.
I did find the fix for the compact flash - file transfer turned off...
sweetly humming again - until the next thing!

This moves the raw source file on disk only. The archive index is not changed automatically, so you still need to run a manual refresh afterward.
