Digital BW, The Print

Once a cartridge has been installed (ie. punctured), does anyone 
have experience switching back and forth between photo and matte 
black cartridges? 

If so, are there any tricks to preventing the inks from drying out? 
Storage orientation? In a plastic bag? etc.

Or is this a risk not worth taking...in terms of dried out ink, 
clogging heads, other damage to the printer, and/or print quality?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
