I just lost another full 35x46 sheet of William Turner to Hahnemühle's horrible packaging. It's one thing to have to send one out of three shipments back due to damage, but this is ridiculous. With William Turner, German Etching, and PhotoRag the top sheet is yellowed in the pattern of the tape Hahnemühle uses to close the silver paper enclosure. If it isn't yellowed on opening, it will do so shortly after opening. Subsequent sheets after the top one is used will continue to have the problem if the packaging is reclosed, and it may not appear until after a print is done and delivered. There is something outgassing from the tape harmful to their coatings, and one would think they, if anyone, would be aware of these possibilities. I started a large print on WT last night, told the artist to meet me here in the morning, and what was a clean white sheet last night is now horribly stained in the pattern of the tape right over the image. Not only is this getting expensive, it's embarrassing and hardly gives people faith in the longevity of this process. This was the 3rd or 4th sheet down, which in the last few days had become the top sheet with the paper folded back over it. I'll have to work out some way of storing these large new sheets so I can imediately get everything out of the packaging on arrival and hope for the best. This is a huge problem, unacceptable, and I think it's time to raise hell about it. But if I'm the only one complaining, I'll just be considered a problematic crackpot. I hope others will join me in individually complaining to our dealers. Ranting Tyler
