Digital BW, The Print

I am having problems seeing the whole black spectrum on a 21 step 
wedge on my monitor.  I cant see the break in the steps from 100 down 
to 75.  I have tried to calibrate using the cheap tools and have 
adjusted brightness and contrast many times to no avail.  Short of 
having to buy a new monitor any suggestions would be helpful from the 
group.  When i print i do get the full deliniation of the steps so I 
know that at least that is working. I am using a Digiview monitor if 
that means anything.
