I suggested this method of using the Epson driver to print B&W on the 2200 when I first started using the printer. Using the "Photorealistic" driver setting does improve shadow detail and avoids the non-linearity problem when using the driver in NCA mode with profiles, but the major problem with this method is metamerism. The latter problem is a result of using all of the color inks (in large amounts) to generate a neutral gray scale. A good RIP (QTR, IJC/OPM, ImagePrint) will do a much better job of controlling the specific inks used and the amounts needed for a neutral (or toned) B&W print without metamerism.
