really finding Clayton's articles useful. ( Although I notice it
says revised nov 2003 but still hase 2002 dates in article and
talks about using a 1280 not a 2200) -I wonder if clayton or anyone
else can comment on the difference between this apporach on
lunimous landscape and clayton's approach.

I suggested this method of using the Epson driver to print B&W on the
2200 when I first started using the printer. Using the
"Photorealistic" driver setting does improve shadow detail and avoids
the non-linearity problem when using the driver in NCA mode with
profiles, but the major problem with this method is metamerism. The
latter problem is a result of using all of the color inks (in large
amounts) to generate a neutral gray scale. A good RIP (QTR, IJC/OPM,
ImagePrint) will do a much better job of controlling the specific inks
used and the amounts needed for a neutral (or toned) B&W print without
metamerism.

I found in article #4 I missed changing the copyright date, got it
now, thanks for the sharp eyes.

Not sure what you mean by this. The only place I mention a 1280 is in
the recommendations section of #3:

"I recommend getting either the 1280 model or the 2200."

All of the detailed settings are for the 2200 in the "How To Do It"
section:

"Here are the settings I use for Black-Only Printing with the 2200"

I don't think I mentioned the 1280 anywhere else.

Clayton

I think your browser has cached the older page. Just refresh your
browser and it should be ok.

Re: black only (and 1280 vs. 2200)

2003-11-30 by Barrett Benton

Just in case this hasn't been brought up before: when
comparing output between the Epson 1280 and 2200 (whether
for color, quad/septone or b-o black-and-white), remember that
that the 1280 "best" output is 2880 x 720 dpi, while the 2200's is
2880 x 1440dpi.

I only mention this because, as near as I can tell, just about
everyone here has been mentioning "2880" in reference to both
printers, without mentioning "that other number".

Good point, thanks.
