The 1280 curves will probably only work well with the 1280 (or equivalent
letter-size printer) driver.  I believe some people with 1270s and UT inks
are getting good results by using the 1280 driver, which they just download
from the Epson website.  

Have you tried the 870/1270 VM curves?
