Re: [Digital BW] Epson 4000 and QTR

2003-12-05 by Roy Harrington

I see the Epson 4000 discussions have started. This printer
being an 8 ink printer has some new issues in general and for
QTR in particular. Being gimp-print based for now, it's quite
dependent on what's in gimp-print. As Roger has mentioned new
PPD files would be needed. This is probably easy compared to
dealing with the internals that are 7 ink oriented for the most part.
One stop gap method would be to define "two" printers one a
photo ink printer and the other a matte ink printer. From the
Epson literature it seems they are supporting only one of the
blacks at a time.

So far I haven't seen a Programmers Guide for the new printer.
I don't expect any major issues but the nitty-gritty details would
be necessary to get things working.

As far as different interfaces to printers are concerned, the issue
is mainly a CUPS capability. I believe ethernet connections work but
have never tried it. I don't think Firewire and Bluetooth are
possible yet and haven't any idea if they are coming.

If it's any consolation, I've got one of these 4000's on order as well.

Roy
