I just printed a grayscale using the description of this method next to one of my 4 ink grayscale "duotones" on a 2200 with PS4.0 and MIS 7600 inks and have to say that there is no comparison - the duotone method step scales have none of the color shifts that are quite obviously displayed by the RGB/ColorMatch method. Is it as good as a RIP? I don't know. Septone? Probably nowhere near. Is it good enough for somebody who wants 1 printer to do both while giving the flexibility of making toned B&W prints? Well, how about checking it out for yourself? My color vision in not good enough to see subtle tones or shifts, so, would someone using the same printer/ink setup please take the time to do a test. Since it requires curves and ink definitions that I have developed, you'll have to write me for a return e-mail with a description of the process and attached Photoshop curve/ink info. It is much simpler than the conversion needed for a quadtone ink printer. By the way, this does not work on a 1200 and may not on the later 12xx series, either. Regards, Frank
