Thanks to all for the suggestions.  I will work the problem forthwith.
 But there must be folks who have tried the MIS Eboni cartridge in
lieu of the Photo or Matter black.  How does the ink compare upon
printing and how does the software react?  Does it still give you a
report on ink levels?  

Lastly, a big gripe against Epson.  Why is their support and
documentation dept so lame?  Not only in regards to this problem
(whihc it wouldn't hurt them to explain in their documentation), but
I've never been too impressed by them, having owned a 1280 and dig
camera, too.  It's like a car dealer selling a new car with the
attitude, once it's paid for and off the lot, any problems are purely
the owner's responsibility.
