RE: [Digital BW] Polaroid type 55 negs

Ken,

What's the reason for your point about not using fixer when processing type
55 film?

Best Regards,

David R. Spielman

I use Type 665, which is the medium format equivalent. It produces
excellent
negs for darkroom prints as well as scans, with a long toe (good shadow
detail),
and less contrast than Plus-X, Tri-X, etc. I forget the "official" mixing
ratio
for sodium sulfite to water, but a quarter teaspoon to a pint of water
works for
me. Before putting it in the solution, remove as much of the paper around
the
neg as possible. Then submerge in the solution in a tray, tank and hanger,
or
just hold a corner with your fingers and dunk in a glass, etc. Gently
agitate
and the black mask will come off after 15-30 seconds at room temperature.
The
emulsion is very fragile, so be careful. After the sodium sulfite
solution, I
rinse it in running water for 5-10 seconds, then put it in a hardener bath
(a
few drops of hardener to a pint of water) with agitation for about 30-60
seconds... then rinse about 10 seconds, and then Photo Flo before hanging
to
  dry. Do not use Fixer!

  Hi everyone,

Is anyone using Polaroid type 55 Pos/Neg type film and scanning for B&W
prints? I am thinking about shooting type 55 with my 4X5 and scanning
with
the Epson 3200. This seems like a great combination as I do not have a
darkroom available to process 4X5 film. Any info and/or tips from the
group
  would be most welcome!
