RE: [Digital BW] new UT EZ inks for C84 printers

2004-02-23 by Paul Roark

Ed,

The "EZ" C82/84 inks assume no profiles or anything. That is, they were
aimed at novices who would not do anything to their systems. So, I'd use
"same as source" with a file that has not embedded profile.

The "warm" is un-toned carbon. If you want a tone between neutral and
carbon, you can, for example, stick a warm cart in the yellow position. If
you do this you must use a grayscale file to print from.

The C82 worked best with EEM and PhotoRag because of the good dmax these
papers have. A "problem" with the C82 was that it under-printed the 100%
black with some color inkset. This made for smoother transitions but
lowered the dmax. Whether this is still true with the C84 is unknown.
Someone sent me a dmax reading that may indicate the C84 has a better dmax.

Good luck.

Subject: [Digital BW] new UT EZ inks for C84 printers

Hi all, I've just ordered a set of the EZ B&W UT inks to use with an Epson
C84 printer
that I got for free when I bought a computer recently. Here is the info
from the MIS
website:

"There are 2 inksets for the Epson C82 (&C84) , a warm set (EZW) and a
neutral set
(EZN). Both make beautiful prints with out any workflow whatsoever. This
means
that all you have to do is install the cartridges in the printer and print.
There are no
adjustments required, no curves to fuss with, and any software that can
print an
image can be used. The images can be in color or grayscale, it does not
matter. Of
course you will need some fine art paper and you have to print in the Best
Photo
mode with no color adjustment. It is Easy to make great looking B&W
archival quality
prints. Matte and glossy prints can be created by selecting either an Eboni
black
cartridge, for matte prints, or the Photo Black cartridge for glossy prints.
The
Ultratone CMY cartridges work on both types of media. The inks were
optimized for
Hahnamuhle Photo Rag paper. Other papers may produce different results."

My questions: what Proof Setup, if any, would you use in PS7 or CS? Would
you send
the images to the printer with the Printer Space set to Same As Source?

Thanks for any info
Ed
