New Monitor

I am planning on getting a new monitor.  I currently own a NEC CRT 
display.  For around 700 dollars plus or minus a 100 or so, any 
suggestions as to the direction to go?  Flat Panel or convential 
CRT?  I do both color and black and white.  Thanks
