Digital BW, The Print

Perfect. I figured it had to be something like that but I just wasn't
sure.

That's how you avoid clipping highlights--you make the exposure darker.
Then, if you want the picture brighter, you can apply a curve when you
edit,
to bring up the midtones while compressing rather than clipping the
highlights.
