Have you tried a different cartridge? The Epson carts seem fairly bulletproof, but every time I've experienced a problem like this (with non-Epson carts), it was in the carts not the heads. Everyone hates to throw away a good cart full of ink but still I'd try that to see if if solves your problem. If it doesn't, you can still use the other cart later once you solve the problem. If it does solve the problem, be happy.
