Consider separating issues due to the scan from issues due to the print. For example, if you made a smooth ramp (0-100%) in photoshop and printed it, does it still look grainy? If it's a print problem, look at profiles, nozzles, ink feed etc to all work as they should. If it's a scan problem, maybe you are using Imacon defaults meant for low ISO chromes. Usually that would be 250 in the "texture" settings. Try 0 before you turn it off completely; there is good reason to have some sharpening in there. Wisdom from Imacon users is to use a 2 stage sharpening: Let the Imacon driver do some "basic" amount that only compensates for sharpness lost by the optics and CCD etc, and then do the rest in Photoshop depending on the use of the file.
