I tried Epson's new driver for SP 1280 but no improvement. Same with GP, QTR. Here's 
what I have in the bottom pull-down menu of the Print dialog:
Copies & pages
Layout
Scheduler
Paper handling
Colorsync
Summary
which looks to me like a generic setup to which each printer adds its particular features.

I'm wondering if these options are part of a config file I can check and/or edit.
