Hi Lea The image I tested on was 16 x 10 inches at 360 ppi. I didn¹t have the chance to read the manual or anything. We loaded the image in PS CS and then clicked on the filter and used one of the layer presets. When I then hit ok and the adjusted image finally appeared in PS CS, looking at the image at 50-100% reveals very heavy pixelation where the image was altered. The interior of the image was not pixelated at all ie it was left alone as one would expect. I was using an edge which made the edge of the image look etched away. The edge should conform to whatever the resolution of the image you're applying it to...you might check to make certain your image is in the 300 ppi range before you do the edge effect.
