I believe I tested the Epson Glossy Photo paper with Epson UltraChrome Photo
black and got a dmax of only 1.4.  This is as opposed to the 1.9 - 2.0 that
I can get with the UT2/7 with the "Eboni-glossy" curves that use the midtone
gray inks.  So, I think there may be something about the Epson coated black
pigment that limits the dmax.  Note that with the C84 that uses a hybrid
black, Glossy Photo Paper is back on the list of papers.

I have both the old and new glossy paper types in the fader now, so we'll
see in a month or so whether the microporous coating aids longevity.

It's strange that the Glossy Paper Heavy Weight interior paper initially
tested neutral and now tests as acidic.  What may be going on is that the
alkaline coating kept the whole roll neutral when it was in a roll, but the
paper actually has no buffering in it.  So, after being unrolled for a while
the residual lignin turned the paper (not the surface) acidic.  This may
also suggest that the paper is thin enough that the non-penetrating
deacidification spray from Preservation Technologies on the back would keep
the lignin in check and make the paper archival.  However, unless the paper
does much better in the fade test, I'm not sure I want to bother with more
processing.
