That's what I did, Jerry, but at the time I think some others were 
using the foam earplugs hardware stores have as small bumpers to hold 
the lid ajar. I've forgotten how they attached them, but I remember 
worrying they might come loose and fall in. Of course, so might 
something else as you lean over the printer, but for some reason I 
never worry about that.

The Epson store on Epson's web site used to sell dust covers. I use 
plastic bags to keep the scanners from getting jealous.
