I did some testing with UT2 on the 1270. My first finding was that it was necessary to use the 1280 driver. With that driver the stepwedges looked pretty good. The other finding was that the prints on matte paper were fine, but there were unacceptable artifacts with glossy paper. Its certainly worth trying a couple of cartridges and seeing what you find.
