Alan, I can tell you for sure that neither the 1280 nor the inks are to blame for your disapointments. It's either the software/profiles you are using or something is going on with your scans and general workflow. Unless by "muddy" you mean a pure craving for deep blacks - which you can't quite get from pigments on matte paper. If that's the case - there are remedies, but it may "cost" you!.....
