Just looking for a direction

Just looking for a direction

2004-04-06 by alanwdd

I currently am using piezography inks.
I am having problems with muddy prints and am in the stage of giving
up.

I have an Epson 1280 and really need to move to something different.
I like being able to print to fine art paper and the quality I had
been promised with piezo.

Can anyone make any recommendations as to which print ink set to try
next.

Thanks
AW

Just out of curiosity, have you been trying different adjustment curves
and/or softproofing your pictures in Photoshop on a calibrated monitor
set to G1.8/D5000? I find I get pretty close on the first or second
print and then one or two tweaks gets me the look I want. I'm using a
1280 with Peizo Selenium and Museum Bright Paper on a G5 with OS
10.3.3. You might also want to try the following technique to define
your blacks better:

You can equally use its inverse to isolate and adjust highlights as
well. Hope this helps.

Alan,

I can tell you for sure that neither the 1280 nor the inks are to blame for
your disapointments. It's either the software/profiles you are using or
something is going on with your scans and general workflow.

Unless by "muddy" you mean a pure craving for deep blacks - which
you can't quite get from pigments on matte paper. If that's the case -
there are remedies, but it may "cost" you!.....

Piezography Museum Bright White is no longer available in sizes other
than 8.5x11 and when that lot is sold people depending on that paper
will have to find a replacement.

And as Jon Cone stated on the other list "Moab and PMBW do not share
the same coating and the coating is very important."

Cheers,
Andre

If the Piezography solution is not working for you, I
highly advise trying the MIS UT2 inks before giving up
completely - you may be surprised.
