The paid versions of Vuescan are identical to the trial version except they don't put the $$$ all over the image. It seems that profiles for specific b&w films just are not needed in Vuescan. You will notice some very popular films (Tri-X, HP5, Plus-X, FP4) lacking a profile. So long as you're capturing all the data without the end points being clipped, you've got everything you need to begin working in Photoshop. Just concentrate on capturing all the data in the scan and then do your adjustments in PS. My experience is that a great looking histogram in the scan will probably lose some data, not what you want.
