you essentially never need to replace your carts so long as ink will 
pass through them.  If you decide that using the vacuum pump method 
to fill them is the only way that you want to charge your system you 
should be able to just plug them with anything you want (MIS supplies 
aluminum rivets that could easily be purchased as a hardware store) 
and redo that, but if you have ink in your tubes you have to go 
through the whole hassle of cleaning or replacing them.  Personally, 
I replace them.  I only used my vacuum pump for the first filling, 
but had to replace tubes many times because the MIS black ink clogs 
the tube.  There is no science to this stuff.  You need to get your 
lines full and your carts about half full and then everything works.
