The M & Y positions are also switched. The toner goes in the yellow position. The light gray (what would be in the hextone yellow position) goes in the M spot. I have EEM and Epson UltraSmooth curves for the 1160 & UT1. The 1160 is a good old workhorse. I just retrieved mine from one of my kids' rooms at set it up in my office again. It is just the simplest printer to use for ink development, among other things. The 1160, however, cannot match the 1290 and 2100 quality. The lack of a light toner shows on very close inspection. Also, the black ink does not appear to be as smooth. That said, for matte paper it's fine. (If you want to print glossy paper, get a 1290 or 2100 and UT2 or 7.)
