Bernie, >Paul would you say that the 2100 + UT7 can even improve the quality >of a 1290 with UT2? I have not tried the UT7 in the 2100, but if the 2100 is essentially the same as the 2200, then is it an improvement in a few respects. One advance in the 2200 over the 1280 is that the driver has some adjustment for the ink limits. By increasing "Color density" up to 20%, the dmax on some papers can be improved significantly. These papers include un-coated Arches and the almost artifact-free Epson Glossy Photo paper. The light black of the 2200 is usually not very noticeable. However, with no curves or sliders used, it significantly improves the smoothness of printing un-coated papers like Arches Hot Press. The 2200's individual color ink carts are also a source of flexibility. The yellow position ink is especially one that some people will want to replace with a light gray (like the light cyan UT7 ink). So, while the print quality of a 1280 & 2200 are usually about the same, the 2200 has some advances that really do make significant differences in some circumstances.
