Digital BW, The Print

Hi Steve,

I use Epson UC inks in a 2200.  This post I made on the IP forum may 
be of some help.  You will have to fool your printer by changing out 
a chip from Photo or some other work around.  But, yes the matt inks 
can work with Premium semi-gloss.  See my post below.  

"For those who do not mind spraying a print with Image Shield or
other protective sprays I offer the following experience. I use
Epson Matt UC ink with the above papers (RC Papers), IP 5.6 with the 
Photo Black profiles, both BW and Color. No ink is smeared on the 
rollers. I
am able to run the print through the printer a 2nd time without
adverse effects. After 24 hour drying time I spray 1 or 2 coats of
Image Shield (Premier Art) depending on the paper used. Gloss
differential is totally to almost totally eliminated, the contrast
and brilliance increased and the print protected from smudges, etc.
I did wax with a conservators wax after the spray dried initially,
but have found that it is not necessary. The best paper to date,
needing only one coat of Image shield is LexJet semi matt (a luster
type of paper) Very pleasing. Using the matt ink with photo black
profiles does not significantly alter the color balance. With BW
printing the tone of the print is dead on with the tint picker set
to 50, 50. The blacks have a dense dmax to my eye, but since I do
not have a spectrophotometer I cannot say for sure the dmax is
better than using photo K inks. If someone with the means to check
this I would be quite interested. The benefits are quite obvious.
No need to change carts for glossy or matt papers and perhaps a
better dmax black. I would like to hear if others have tried this."
