Hi Mark (and Mike)- The Fujis do a good job of scanning transparencies, at more than enough resolution to feed an 1160. The problem is noise. Mike, look closely (both on screen @ 50-100% and at your prints with a loupe) at smooth areas of approx. 25% and 75% density. Do you see any irregularities of density that are not explained by grain? (Wow, this is difficult to put in words, but I sure know it when I see it! :^) For what you'll pay for a Fuji, you can get a good drum scanner with software. If you're going to do the extra work involved with 4x5's, it might be worth better scans than you'll get with a flat-bed. OTOH, if these issues are not important to you, then you'll probably get more bang for your buck with medium format film and scans.
