Garry, It sounds like an ink problem. MIS will have to take a look. Frankly, ever since I started looking closely at inks, I've been surprised by what seems to me to be a lack of consistency. To match the MIS VM inkset to my previous Piezo variable tone mix, I received samples of Piezo ink from about a dozen sources. Some were so far off I didn't even include them in the average that I used for my target densities. Ink consistency is a problem. That may be what is going on here, and it might have nothing to do with an MIS mixing error. I believe MIS assumes what it receives from its supplier is consistent. I fear this may not be the case. I have been using the MIS VM inks for some time and have been very happy with the prints. I recently purchased some new cartridges (two diferent batches) but when I installed one of them the prints came out with a magenta hue. I use Paul's EAM nc1 curves and print on Epson archival Matt paper, nothing had changed in my workflow except for the new cart. I have tried using all PR curves for both EAM and RAG and the cool and neutral prints all have the magenta cast. A `purge' pattern print shows a distinct magenta hue in both the blue and light blue inks when compared with the previous carts and they do not match the swab colours on the MIS web site. I tried a cartridge from the second batch and the tints were the same. I then tried the carts on my second 1290 and again the tints had the magenta hue. I repeated the tests using both Picture Window and Photoshop Elements with the same result. I have removed and reinstalled the Epson printer driver but still have the problem. I have e-mailed MIS and have sent them examples of prints but they cannot explain the problem. Has anyone had similar problems? Paul, have you any suggestions?
