Digital BW, The Print

I just linearized a stock profile using my epson 2450 scanner according to the 
directions given in the ijc-opm documentation. I was getting very nice prints 
with the original profile, but thought I might improve them. I got mud. 

It occurs to me that a densitometer might be the answer. Or at least a better 
alternative than the scanner.

What kind of densitometer do I need. How much should I expect it to cost?
