Re: [Digital BW] PremierArt Print Shield Spray

2004-07-16 by john dean

I have used the Premier Art spray since it became
available and the Lyson Printguard for years before
that with identical results. Wilhelm has only formally
tested the Premier Art spray which is why everyone
uses it now. I spray all the Hahnemuhle rag papers
because they have a tendency to skuff badly in the
blacks. Actually all inkjet papers can do this but
Hahnemuhle because of the surface coating are the
worst for this, but in my opinion the best in color
saturation and d-max and great permanence factors. .

These two sprays don't effect the surface appearance
at all from my observations. This puts them in a class
all by themselves. They do softent the gloss of
Premium Glossy papers a slight amount but this also
reduces the bronzing effect of the pigment inks on
glossy media. I spray the prints after they have
hardended overnight but often have had to spray them
much soon with no problems at all. The one exception
is with any RC paper like Premium Luster which will
fog if you spray it too soon. Gases are released from
these rc media so you need to wait 12-24 hours before
spraying them.I had this happen once with p luster
quickly sprayed.

These are non-yellowing sprays and Wilhelm Ins. has
shown them to improve image stability in the realm of
doubling the permanence of most media. I like them for
the permance protection, the coating aganst scuffing
and scratching, and the moisture and pollution
protection. These sprays are also perfect for
portfolios where the prints are being handled
regularly.
